Management Says No to Anti-Harassment Protections, Doubling UpCBSA and Treasury Board continue to insist that we deserve lessthan other federal workers. This past Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (May 4-6) our bargaining team metwith Treasury Board and CBSA representatives in Ottawa to continue negotiationsfor a new contract. Over the course of the three days the parties discussed ourdemands related to working alone, harassment in the workplace, escorted removalsand discipline.
With respect to working alone we indicated to management that there continues tobe ports across the country where officers work alone, and that we want language inour contract that resolves this issue and ensures the safety of our members. Inbargaining management refused to agree to this.
On the issue of harassment, we have proposed anti-harassment language that isconsistent with what other federal employers have agreed to with our union, language that would ensure that harassment of employees will not be tolerated. Inbargaining management refused to agree to this.
For both issues, we told management that our position is unchanged. Wewant language that is proactive and ensures both safe workplaces andprotections against employee harassment. We also proposed a premium tocompensate Inland Enforcement Officers when escorting violators from Canada, andwe discussed language that would ensure no loss in pay when employees are underinvestigatory suspension, consistent with what is found with other enforcementagencies.
We meet again next month. We’ll be sure to update as things progress. If you haveany questions speak with a member of our team, a member of your Branch Executive,or go to the PSAC website at http://www.psac.com for a copy of our demands.PSAC Members at CBSAUnited for a Fair Workplace
