Decisions following Strategic Review - Atlantic Region

Jun 30, 2010

You will have received the national message on the realignment of priorities and subsequent funding reallocations to be made over the next three years associated with Strategic Review.  I won't repeat what is contained in that message but rather will provide you with a synopsis of the three most significant adjustments affecting our Region.

Consolidation of Targeting

In this instance, we are not aware of any impacts on the Region as the program delivery model has not yet been finalized. The new model will be forthcoming in the coming months and I will keep you apprised of developments as they are shared.

Centralization of the Compliance Verification Program

The decision has been taken to centralize this program from six to four Regions with an anticipated effective date of October 1, 2010.  In this instance, a number of our Trade Division staff will be affected.  Kelly Larter, Director of Trade and Compliance, and I, with the support of Human Resources professionals, will hold an initial information session with Division staff.

Federal Tobacco Control Strategy (FTCS)

The decision has been taken to reduce the resources devoted to the FTCS in Fiscal Year 2011-12.  Again, there will be impact on resources allocated to Enforcement & Intelligence, Atlantic Region.  While it is anticipated that we will be able to absorb the reallocation through attrition, Rick Patterson, A/Director, Enforcement and Intelligence, and I, will hold an initial information session with Division staff.

Please be assured that regional management are committed to maximizing opportunities for those directly affected by the Strategic Review decisions and to meeting the realignment of priorities through attrition to the fullest extent possible.

Diane Giffin-Boudreau

Regional Director General, Atlantic
