CIU Triannual convention

Oct 25, 2011

CIU delegates have voted this past weekend for a new President and executive at our tri-annual convention held in Ottawa.

Ron Moran has served his term limit and was unable to run for president.  1st VP J.P Fortan ran for the Presidents position unopposed and was elected by acclamation. 1st VP was won by Jason McMichael (formally 4th VP). Carmen Filice retained 2nd VP. 3rd VP was won by New Brunswick District President Peter Russel and finally the 4th VP elected was Ron Moran. Equal opportunities representative was retained by Karen Church.

Among many other resolutions this past weekend were discussed and voted on, non more important than the Supplementary Pension Plan for our out going President Ron Moran were resolved. The delegates voted over whelming in favor of a resolution that sought to opt out of the SPP. Approximately 68% of the delegates voted to opt out.  The SPP was very controversial as many delegates believed such a provision would have proved extremely costly to the union and the true costs and liabilities were not known.
